| Harmony: Atlanta's
International Youth Chorus offers 125 youth
from diverse racial, cultural, religious and socio-economic
backgrounds the opportunity to develop self-discipline,
teamwork, tolerance and mutual respect as they strive for
choral excellence. Believing that music is a barrier breaker
and a powerful medium of communication and self-expression,
Harmony sings messages of love, peace, justice, hope, reconciliation,
equality and unity in 35 languages. Harmony embraces
the belief that training culturally diverse children to
perform together benefits the quality of life in our communities
and in our world in a tangible way.
Harmony's staff consists of a music director,
an administrative assistant, a percussionist and a volunteer
student rehearsal accompanist. Currently, the
administrative assistant position is vacant. The staff
members are as follows:
Joyce Ketchie Carr McDonald,
Music Director - Bachelor of Music, Queens
College, Charlotte, NC; Graduate Study in Organ Performance,
Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC
Joyce Ketchie Carr McDonald has thirty years experience
teaching children and youth in choral groups, instrumental
ensembles and private instruction. She also has extensive
experience in accompanying choruses, soloists and instrumentalists
on both piano and organ. Serving as principal organist in
churches for twenty-five years, Ms. McDonald is a member
of the American Choral Directors Association and the American
Guild of Organists. |
